I would suggest that it would take approximately 5 years to achieve your Black Belt.

After this you would need to do an instructors course. You could be assisting in a club to help gain experience at teaching during your time as a Black Belt.

Very best wishes with all of your Karate endeavours.

Your comments on courtesy are exactly what I’m looking for and are very encouraging. However, I will be 35 years old (in April 2010), have never practiced martial arts and I’m a very busy professional (IT security).I am determined to make time for karate and hope to benefit from a life-time journey of discipline. I’m I being too ambitious; I’m I too old for the physical demands of karate? With discipline and consistency, how long will it take me to get to a Black-Belt or to be qualified as a teacher? I would like to influence the youth in my community positively in future and hopefully use karate as a medium of teaching and change of behavior.Your sincere comments will be appreciated.Regards,Moses
